Intensive Supervision Program Targets High-Risk and Repeat DUI Drivers
Tulare County, CA, November 13, 2025 – High-risk and repeat driving under the influence (DUI) cases remain a serious public safety concern in Tulare County, reinforcing the need for focused supervision and intervention. In response, the Tulare County Probation Department has received a $147,500 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support an intensive supervision program for repeat DUI offenders. The program will run through September 2026. “This funding allows us to better monitor individuals with repeat driving under the influence violations,” said Chief Probation Officer Kelly Vernon. “With structured supervision and essential resources, we’re promoting accountability, reducing impaired driving, and enhancing community safety.” The grant will support a range of initiatives, including:
Conducting regular check-ins to ensure compliance with court-ordered probation terms- Executing warrant operations targeting probation violations and individuals who fail to appear in court
- Administering alcohol testing and officer training in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST)
- Distributing DUI “Be On the Lookout” (BOLO) alerts
- Collaborating with courts and prosecutors to enhance the enforcement of probation orders
“Through accountability, treatment, and strong community partnerships, we are working toward a future where all people will be safe on California roads,” said OTS Director Stephanie Dougherty. “By supporting efforts that help high-risk DUI offenders make safer daily choices, we are creating a strong road safety culture together.” Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
