Typical Duties
Probation Correctional Officer (PCO) Series
Supervise and instruct in-custody youth in doing vocational and recreational activities, meals, showers, rehabilitation and counseling programs
- Ensure the security and safety of youth
- Evaluate, and report on the conduct, needs, and progress of youth
- Counsel youth showing behavioral, emotional, or school problems
- Transport youth to various appointments and activities
- Write incident, shift, screening committee, and release reports
- Search facilities and youth for contraband
- Enforce regulations and policies
- Testify in court as necessary
PCO I
$24.94 – $30.40 Hourly
$51,883.73 – $63,256.96 Annually
Advance to PCO II within 12 months upon completion of probationary period
PCO II
$27.55 – $33.57 Hourly
$57,293.60 – $69,825.60 Annually
Advance to PCO III after working two years at the PCO II level
PCO III
$30.41 – $37.06 Hourly
$63,256.96 – $77,092.08 Annually
Education/Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that provides appropriate skill and knowledge is qualifying

Equivalent of two years of college with major coursework in behavioral or social science or criminology

Two years of increasingly responsible public contact work

Career Incentive Pay:
Eligible employees will receive a cumulative percentage increase to their base rate of pay at key service milestones:
- Bilingual Pay Upon Qualification
- Firearm Pay: 3%
