Typical Duties
Deputy Probation Officer (DPO) Series

Handle caseloads of adult or juvenile clients.

Assist in the supervision and care of juvenile court wards, work in community schools, juvenile institutions, and supervision.

Investigate, report, and make recommendations to the courts
-
Gather client information through interviews with families, victims, employers, neighbors, associates, and personnel of other agencies
-
Supervise the client’s progress with goals on the treatment plan and conformance to the conditions of probation
-
Search clients, their cars, and homes for evidence of suspected violations of laws or probation terms
-
Arrest and/or detain clients who have committed violations
-
Administer drug and alcohol tests to determine use/abuse
-
Testify in court as necessary

Qualify, train, properly use, and care for safety and law enforcement equipment, and carry a firearm for certain assignments.

*Advance to DPO II within 12 mos of completion of probationary period
Education/Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university, preferably with major coursework in one of the behavioral or social sciences

Relevant work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis
